AIWO-CAN (African Indigenous Women Organization – Central Africa Network) is an organization committed to transforming mindsets and realities surrounding the living conditions of indigenous women in Central Africa. In a context where a large portion of the population lives below the poverty line, the rights, voices, and basic needs of indigenous women are often overlooked or marginalized. This neglect—expressed through limited access to education, economic opportunities, healthcare, and social protection—places a heavy burden on both individuals and communities. It contributes to a silent erosion of dignity and agency, which too often becomes normalized, particularly across generations.
In response to this reality, AIWO-CAN is dedicated to laying the groundwork for meaningful and lasting change. We work to restore collective awareness around the importance of empowering indigenous women, not through superficial or symbolic actions, but through concrete initiatives that address structural inequalities, strengthen autonomy, and foster sustainable social inclusion within their communities.
